A mariachi ensemble is an integration of stringed instruments highly influenced by the cultural impacts of the colonial era Mexico. Throughout the history of mariachi, musicians have experimented with brass, wind, and percussion instruments.

The polka is a lively Central European dance. It originated in the middle of the 19th century and versions today are found in the Nordic countries, Ireland and Latin America... especially Mexico.

 


Zydeco / Creole

Evolved in southwest Louisiana in the early 19th century from forms of Louisiana Creole music.

 

It is fast tempo and dominated by the piano accordion and washboard percussion.
